Dear PWN Vienna Members and Friends,
Fall is in full swing, and PWN Vienna has a lot of events for you - and your friends and colleagues - to take advantage of. Spread the word, and don't forget the men in your life. We want to help you find your superpower, but also to tap into the power of different perspectives. Our mission is to accelerate Gender Balanced Leadership. Whether in a workshop on interviewing techniques or the Q&A and networking after a Linkup & Learn, we are committed to creating a space for discussing what kind of leadership is needed for the world we want to live in, and encourage and welcome men to join us in the conversation.
One of the biggest believers in this balance, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a scholar, lawyer and a justice on the Supreme Court of the United States, passed away on Friday. Her Superpower (yes, this time with a capital S) was in legalising equal rights - for both men and women. She changed the way the law sees gender - and believed that equal rights are good not just for women, but also for men and families - power should be balanced, no gender should be favoured. But because there were so many laws (yes laws - legal barriers!) preventing women from doing things like being hired as a college professor, or even having a credit card under their own name, her main focus and her greatest impact was on women's rights.
According the The Guardian, her trailblazing leadership and the legal cases she represented "expanded civil rights law and legal protections to women, undoing a dense network of laws that had codified sex discrimination in all areas of American life". Although her legal impact was in the US, her influence was world-wide, serving as an inspiration and role model to girls and women everywhere. She will be mourned, but her legacy will live on.
On a more ordinary note, the Corona virus has unfortunately also taken advantage of the fall activity and spread itself around, so many of our events will be moving online; we want to see you, but we also want to keep you safe.

Cultural Event: Powerful Women of Vienna Tour - 26 September
Take advantage of the beautiful weather with a walk around the historic first district while learning about the women who shaped Austria's history - super-women who found the power to assert themselves in pre-women's lib Vienna. (It is outdoors, so thankfully safe). The 'Powerful Women of Vienna' tour is led by Secret Vienna, and offers a window into "the private and public dramas, difficult decisions, outrageous scandals, private secrets and the everyday life of the great female protagonists of Vienna." How could you possibly resist? Click the link below to register.
Linkup & Learn: Female Leaders in Finance - 12 October
There are many roads to gender balance - legal ones, like those championed by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and of course corporate ones, where having women in leadership roles has a significant impact on everything from what products and services companies offer to pay and family leave policies.
Join us via Zoom for a panel discussion with four inspiring women from the financial sector who will share their journey to the top, the key challenges they encountered and how they overcame them, as well as their tips for making it into leadership positions and successfully staying there. They are:
Joanne Hunger - Director Central Europe, Western Union Business Solutions
Sandra Simundza - Managing Director, CRO, Western Union International Bank
Gundi Wentner - Partner, Deloitte Consulting
Claire Gates - CEO, Paysafe Pay Later
We are making this online Linkup & Learn free to non-members because we feel it is an important topic, and also to give non-members a chance to join our community for the evening and get to know us - we encourage you to attend and to spread the word!
Workshop: Storytelling in the Workplace - 27 October
Storytelling has become a very powerful and popular communication tool. In this workshop led by Laura Li, learn how to use your own stories to improve your ability to inspire, engage and persuade others.
Laura Li has over 25 years experience working with businesses of all sizes, from well established corporations to start-ups and NGOs. For the past five years she has been a coach, focusing on leadership, communication and career development. She is an ICF Professional Certified Coach, and has an MBA from Rutgers University in the US.
PWN Vienna Mentoring Program - Get Ready for the Kickoff!
Well done to everyone who applied to our Mentoring Program - 98 people and counting! We know the applicants put a lot of time and thought into the process, and now our Mentoring Team will be feverishly reviewing the submissions to come up with perfect Mentor-Mentee matches. For those joining the program, mark 6 October in your calendars for the Kick-off. All applicants will receive an email with the details, but it is never too early to start planning!
Membership Math!
Are you new here and not sure how much a membership is, how much our events and workshops cost, or even how often we have them? Let's start with the facts:
Linkup & Learns and Workshops cost between €25 - €35 for non-members, free for members
We hold one Networking Event (Linkup & Learn) and at least one Workshop every month
Membership costs €105 per year – it includes free entrance to all events/workshops (excluding social/cultural events)
Membership is a pre-requisite for joining the Mentoring Program
Membership also includes access to all PWN Global Webinars, and access to recordings of past events in the Webinar library
So, here’s some easy math – if you think you will attend 4 events/workshops within a 12 month time frame, (which in fact you could easily do within the next two months), a membership would allow you to attend all the events and workshops for a whole year for almost the same price.
What sounds better to you: 4 workshops for €100 or 20 for €105?!
Follow this link to find out more details about Membership, and be sure to contact Milica at membership@pwnvienna.net if you have any questions.
Community & Support
As the Corona virus spreads and the opportunities to meet up in person become limited, support from your communities are even more important - join ours and follow us on facebook and LinkedIn, and if you have any questions, write us at share@pwnvienna.net.
