Dear PWN Vienna Members and Friends,

Be courageous. Don't let anyone stop you. Challenge things. Fail, you will learn from it. Don't stay in your lane - unconscious bias has drawn those white lines, but remember, you are behind the wheel.

These words of advice are just a sampling of what we learned from the Panel Discussion ‘Female Leaders in Finance: The Journey to the Top and Future Perspectives’ with four female leaders in the financial sector who managed to make it into top positions, despite the obstacles women face in this extremely male-dominated industry.

If you missed it, not to worry - read the summary in Connect Magazine here. Plus, we will continue to talk about female leadership next week when our President, Claudia Cordie, holds an exclusive interview with Christa Geyer - ‘Leadership Needs Women: How to Defeat the Four Killer Excuses’.

Christa will talk about a Code of Conduct that outlines the strategies used to combat these phrases.

Alongside 'big' strategies like the Code of Conduct, there are also small, daily actions everyone can take to help women defeat gender bias and succeed in the workplace. The Female Accelerator has created a Challenge to get everyone involved - to take part, read more about it below.

Our Mentoring Program is also designed to help people get out of their lane, more commonly known as their comfort zone, and move on to their next goal, whether it be a journey of self-discovery, finding the leader within, or going completely off-road and exploring an entirely new direction in life. Our 2020/21 program kicked off on 6 October where we welcomed over 100 participants. Read more about the Kick-off below.

Here are our events for November - all online, because it is easier to talk with you when no one is hidden behind a mask.

Career Advancement Workshop Series - September through November

In the next installment in the Career Development Series, 'Job Search Strategies', Alexandra Deubner will help you with the central question - where is the job I want hiding, and how can I find it?! Also, mark your calendars for the interview preparation workshop, for when you've landed the first meeting!

  • Job Search Strategies – Tuesday, 20 October

  • Preparing for a Job Interview – Tuesday, 17 November

  • Goal Setting - Thursday, 14 January

Follow the link below for more details and to register.

Leadership Needs Women: An Interview with Christa Geyer - 21 October

Did you know that there are 4 'killer excuses' many executives use to explain away the lack of females in leadership positions, despite their qualifications?

PWN Vienna's President, Claudia Cordie, will interview Christa Geyer, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board at ASFINAG and Head of the Center of Competence/ CEE of Raiffeisen Capital Management about the Code of Conduct developed by Fondsfrauen to defeat these excuses.

Because we want to increase awareness about this Code of Conduct and how it can be applied to all sectors, this online event is only 10€ for non-members. Register below and join us for an insightful interview!

Workshop: Storytelling in the Workplace - 27 October

We hope you will enjoy the 'stories' our speakers in October will be telling, and use them as inspiration for your own. If you need help developing a narrative, whether to inspire, engage or persuade others, join our workshop on 27 October. Laura Li will teach attendees practical frameworks for storytelling in different contexts.

Mentoring Program 2020/21 - Welcome New and Returning Members!

Zoom fatigue is a real thing (it has even been reported in the papers!) but none of the participants in the Mentoring Kick-off felt it - the excitement was palpable even through the computer screen.

Also a warm welcome to both new and for returning members - we are thrilled to have you and wish you success with your mentoring goals!

Curious how a Kick-off event with over 100 people on a Zoom call went? Read about it here in the PWN Vienna Online Magazine Connect.

The Female Accelerator Challenge

Herizon Collective, one of our many partner networks, along with Katja Schuh, Career Coach for Women, has created a ‘Challenge' to increase the frequency and intensity of 'women supporting women' in the workplace.

It works like similar challenges you have probably seen - complete a task, post it on social media with a hashtag, and nominate three other people. Examples of the types of tasks designed to help women in their jobs and career range from little everyday actions such as -

  • A women you know did something exceptionally well, tell her boss!

  • If she looks tired but there is still work to be done, get her a cup of coffee

to more significant support, such as -

  • Help a woman update her CV and write a cover letter

  • Mentor or coach another woman

Visit the website here, join the challenge, and look forward to that cup of coffee from a supportive colleague when you need it most!
